Hedgerow Resources

The National Biodiversity Data Centre is delighted to release two free resources exploring the benefits of native hedgerows and how to plant hedgerows for biodiversity.

Why are hedgerows important?

Hedgerows are an integral part of Ireland’s landscape. They hold immense value for both humans and biodiversity, providing food (such as blossom and berries), creating crucial wildlife corridors, storing carbon, and helping mitigate fertilizer run-off.

Planting a diverse native hedgerow and managing it for biodiversity is one of the best actions you can take to help pollinators. The planting window is from November to February, so find out more with the flyers below and plan your planting!

We would like to thank the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) project for funding these resources. Protecting Farmland Pollinators was an EIP project funded under the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) under the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020.
