Bee project wins Young Environmentalists Award

Congratulations to the ‘Bee A Hero’ project team, a group of eight enthusiastic Transition Year students from St. Anne’s Secondary School in Tipperary, who won the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalists Awards Final in the Mansion House, in Dublin, in May. The team won the Senior Biodiversity Award for their project on bees.

According to Danielle Ryan, one of the award-winning students, ‘We are trying to educate people in our school and community on the importance of bees to the environment and life on earth. We organised an awareness day in our school and a planting day with the local Tidy Towns group, where we planted bee-friendly plants in the local walking area in Tipperary town, and we have also made bee hotels. We hope our plants will attract bees, give them a food supply and increase biodiversity in the town.’
